Airport Reviews: Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) - Jacksonville, Florida

I do a lot of traveling and the Jacksonville International Airport is one of the most traveler friendly airports I've ever been to. Located on the north side of Jacksonville, FL. Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) is not a large airport by comparison to other airports in metropolitan cities in the US. Nevertheless, that's not a bad thing. Parking at the airport is rather convenient. No matter where you park, there is or will be a shuttle bus to pick you up and take you to the terminal within 2 minutes. The garage parking for your vehicle which charges $12.00 per day to park, provides you with a moving sidewalk to take you to the terminal. I've found that to be rather handy; it save on the walking.

Then if you need to rent a car, most of all the rental car companies are located inside the terminal, just across from Baggage Claim.

The speed at the ticketing counters are fairly descent in a whole. Nevertheless, this can at times be a little taxing on the nerves during certain times of the day (Southwest Airlines ticketing counter opens up a little later than some of the other airlines.) I've come to find. Although, all of the airlines have ticketing agents that are patient and courteous that work hard to get you checked in as soon as possible.

The speed of the security check point is pretty good; the agents keep the lines moving. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 15 minutes in line no matter the time of day or season.

The concourses at JIA are very easy to get to. As you leave the security check point, you will either go left or right to your gate.

Considering JIA is not a 'large' airport; you are limited to the number of eating facilities you have to choose from. Nevertheless, they do have a nice variety of eateries to choose from; you won't starve to death, by any means.

With the remodeling of the airport concourses, each concourse has a sun-roof, which provides natural lighting during daytime hours. In addition, each concourse provides good access to AC power and free Internet.

JIA, overall, is one of the best airports in the US.

My overall grade of JIA is a solid A-.
